The DMG has so far allotted a total five iron ore dumps, with a total quantity of 60 million metric tonnes of ore, to erstwhile leaseholders.
These iron ore dumps are lying outside the lease-bound areas on private land and for which conversion fees are being paid.
Total five dumps have been allocated by DMG to VM Salgaocar Private Limited, Minescape Minerals Private Limited, Chowgule and Company Private Limited and Fomento Resources. These dumps are located in North and South Goa.
Narayan Gad said that the dumps are allotted to the erstwhile mining lease holders as per the policy for Regulating Iron Ore Dump Handling on private land.
He said that the department had in January invited applications from the erstwhile leaseholders, who had paid conversion fees for allotment of dumps.
He said that the Mining companies would be permitted to remove the dumps within five years and they will have to obtain statutory permissions like the environmental clearance to handle the dumps.
The dump handling is permitted subject to the payment of royalty and compliance of all statutory requirements.
