The Government of Goa, through the Department of Art and Culture, signed a memorandum of understanding with Fundação Oriente in Lisbon, on March 12.
This agreement establishes joint actions in cultural, educational, and historical areas between the Government of Goa and Fundação Oriente, focusing on activities in India, and Portugal.
The agreement between the Government of Goa and Fundação Oriente was signed at the Fundação Oriente’s headquarters in Lisbon. The Goa delegation was led by the Minister of Culture and Art, Govind Gaude, while Fundação Oriente was represented by the Chairman of the Board of Directors, Carlos Monjardino, and Board Member João Amorim. This agreement aims to strengthen cultural, educational, and historical ties between Goa and Portugal.
Besides the Minister of Art and Culture, the other members of the Goa’s Government present at the ceremony were: Premendra Shet, MLA.
Antonio Vaz, MLA, Suneel Anchipaka, Secretary - Sports, Art & Culture, Sagun Velip, Director, Directorate of Art and Culture.
With this new agreement, signed by Suneel Anchipaka, IAS, Secretary Government of Goa, and by the Chairman of the Board of Directors of Fundação Oriente, Dr Carlos Monjardino, both entities intend go further promoting and strengthening the cultural, educational, and historical ties between Goa and Lisbon, benefiting both regions and enriching their mutual understanding.
This MoU will be valid for a period of three years extendable upto three years subject to mutual consent of both parties.
The MoU signed outlines the general understanding between the Parties and is intended to express the parties' mutual interest in exploring the following: Cultural exchange and artistic collaboration; expanding Portuguese language courses and teaching programmes with historical ties to Portugal; Collaborating on historical research that document the shared cultural heritage, particularly the Portuguese influence on Goan architecture, art, and community practices; facilitating exchange programs for researchers, scholars, and academics in both Goa and Portugal; promoting literary festivals and author exchanges, featuring both Goan and Portuguese writers, and encouraging the translation of works between the two languages and organising film festivals and screenings that showcase Goan and Portuguese films to foster cross-cultural understanding and collaboration.
