All locales in the State which are connected to significant events in history including Goa's liberation on December 19, 1961, will be mapped and spruced up for posterity, Chief Minister Pramod Sawant said on Sunday.
"It is a matter of pride for Goans... Every place linked to incidents of historic importance right from Shivaji's (arrival in Goa) to freedom fighters who contributed to the liberation of Goa will be identified, beautified and conserved," Sawant said.
This year will be the sixtieth anniversary of Goa's Liberation on December 19, and the celebrations are expected to be graced by President Ram Nath Kovind who will inaugurate an event in the capital city.
The Chief Minister said, all freedom fighters will be felicitated and an event will be held in all other States in India as part of the year-long anniversary celebrations.
Sawant has formally sought a Rs 100-crore grant from the Centre to fund the year-long celebration plans, a move which has been severely criticised by the Opposition parties and others who say the government would do better to alleviate the pandemic woes of ordinary people rather than splash money on the celebrations.
