Ammonia gas began leaking from a factory at the Tuem Industrial Estate on Friday afternoon, causing alarm among people in the vicinity and triggering an emergency response. The pungent smell quickly spread, prompting concerns about potential respiratory issues and environmental harm.
On receiving news of the ammonia gas leakage at an ice factory, a fire tender from the Pernem Fire Station led by Namdev Parwar and Prashant Dhargalkar rushed to the spot and alerted people in the area of a health risk.
Factory workers and nearby residents were then evacuated from the site to avoid any danger or exposure to the toxic fumes.
The fire tender managed to stop the gas leakage, preventing it from spreading in the area and averting a major disaster. No casualties were reported in the incident.
After confirming that the ammonia gas leakage had been contained and after ascertaining there was no threat in the ice factory, people were allowed to return to the area, and normalcy was gradually restored.
