SANGUEM
Sanguem MLA and Minister for Social Welfare Subhash Phaldessai was at the receiving end on Tuesday after anti-IIT agitators showed black flags at him and shouted slogans against Phaldessai and the proposed IIT project at Cotarli village in Sanguem.
Phaldessai was caught unaware of the fresh agitation by the IIT protestors as the protestors numbering over 50 suddenly made their appearance in front of the Sanguem Municipal Council building armed with black flags. Phaldessai had gone to the municipality to attend the ordinary meeting of the Sanguem Municipal Council.
As Phaldessai was about to sit in his car, the anti-IIT agitators started shouting slogans against Phaldessai and IIT project. The slogans and swaying black flags continued till Phaldessai's vehicle drove away from the protesting farmers.
The agitating farmers accused Phaldessai of being a liar and warned him not to take them lightly.
"We will not allow the IIT on our farm lands at any cost and will agitate till our last drop of blood," claimed the agitating farmers.
The farmers also asked those supporting the project to get the project shifted to their villages as there are vast barren lands available elsewhere in the State which could be utilised for setting up the IIT project.
The agitating farmers were also irked with the MLA Subhash Phaldessai as he failed to meet them even after having known of their presence outside the council building.
