In a bizarre incident, a pay-parking attendant of the Corporation of the City of Panaji (CCP) got into an argument with another man seated at the wheel of a parked vehicle at the Panaji Church Square. The argument escalated into a physical altercation, leading to the attendant 'biting' the driver.
The matter reached the Panaji police station after the victim driver, Darren Fernandes (22) filed a complaint. Panaji police who began investigating the matter sent Fernandes for a medical examination at the Goa Medical College and Hospital where he was administered a Tetanus shot.
The vehicle Fernandes was driving is a private car and reportedly belongs to Lucia D'Souza, wife of prominent Goa Civil Services bureaucrat and secretary of Goa State NRI Commission, Anthony D'Souza. She had gone to the Union Bank (formerly Corporation Bank) there to attend to some personal work.
According to Fernandes' complaint, he told the pay-parking attendant that the parking charges will be paid when his "madam" returns from the bank but the attendant insisted on immediate payment and began using abusive language. The confrontation escalated and the attendant eventually bit Fernandes' hand.
A visibly shaken Lucia D'Souza expressed shock over the incident and the abject crude behaviour of the pay-parking attendant.
Matter resolved, closed: PI Chodankar
Panaji police station in-charge, Police Inspector Vijaykumar Chodankar told The Goan that the investigation is closed after "both the parties" amicably resolved the matter.
