MARGAO
The Margao Municipal Council on Wednesday issued precautionary guidelines to both citizens and business establishments in the wake of the spurt in Covid cases with Chief Officer Agnelo Fernandes making a plea to the people, in general, to avoid travelling to Margao unless extremely necessary.
Saying there’s a sudden rise in Covid cases in and around Margao, the chief officer further appealed to the citizens to stay safe and help stop the spread of the virus.
He said only one or two members may come to shop or buy essentials in the city and also avoid attending mass gatherings, parties or other functions.
He urged the owners of theatres, malls, shopping complexes, places of religious worship to restrict numbers and sanitise, keep a safe distance and wear masks at all times.
Sounding a note of caution, the chief officer said the MMC staff will fine shopkeepers as well as citizens for non-wearing of masks, adding that saloons, barber shops and other establishments that come in contact with clients should observe all social distance and sanitize norms.
“If any symptoms are found, please test immediately. Keep children and senior citizens safe and indoors. Schools must avoid bringing students on campus and avoid meeting friends, visiting families, neighbours for a while”, the chief officer stated in his message while stressing the need to maintain all safety precautions and follow the COVID SOP issued by the government.
