The Congregation of the Sisters of the Little Flower of Bethany celebrated the closing centenary year of the Congregation on Friday.
Four communities at Sao Jose de Areal, Quepem, Loliem and Santa Cruz had solemn Eucharistic celebrations to mark the closing centenary celebration which began last year.
Different competitions like poem writing, essay and poster competitions were conducted for students of Bethany Convent High School, Sao Jose de Areal and St Sebastian High School, Loliem of Bethany Education Society-Goa, on the theme ‘Let Bethany Grow, Flower and Bear Fruit.’ Bethany sisters in Goa also distributed food kits to the needy.
The main celebration was held in Mangalore,with Cardinal Oswald Gracias as the main celebration for the solemn Eucharistic celebration on Friday.
The Servant of God, Raymond Francis Camillus Mascarenhas from Mangalore founded the Congregation of the Sisters of the Little Flower of Bethany, with the first four founding members Sr Martha, Sr Clare, Sr Lourdes and Sr Gertrude on the feast of Our Lady of Mount Carmel on July 16, 1921.
Today, the congregation has 1,388 members and 187 convents across 61 dioceses in nine countries. Sr Rose Celine B.S. is the Superior General of the congregation.
