PANAJI
The State Election Commission on Monday issued a notification on delimitation and reservations of wards for elections to the Corporation of City of Panaji (CCP).
The delimitation has completely shuffled the areas of wards with fresh reservations and is expected to completely change the political scenario of the Corporation.
Ward number 1, 3, 6, 8, 10, 11, 13, 14, 17, 22, 23, 26, 28, 29 are general Wards and Ward number 7, 16, 19, 20, 25 are reserved for OBCs. While Ward number 4, 5, 9, 15, 21, 27, 30 are reserved for women, Wards 12, 18, 24 are reserved for OBC women and Ward 2 is reserved for ST.
This delimitation will also change the future of many heavy-weight corporators. Corporator Kishor Shastry's ward number 4 has been reserved for women and corporator Pramay Mainkar’s ward has been reserved for OBC women.
While Lata Yatin Parekh's ward number has been changed and reserved for women OBC, Surendra Furtado's ward has been reserved for OBC.
Reacting on the notification Corporator Pundalik Dessai said that this delimitation and reservation has come as a surprise to the present corporators.
"The wards have been reshuffled arbitrarily and it will be difficult to ascertain the area until the electoral role comes out ", said Dessai.
Meanwhile, the Panaji MLA Atanasio Monserrate said delimitation and reservation of wards will not make any difference to his panel.
"I will put my full force to get 30 out of 30 elected ", said Monserrate adding his panel will be out by this weekend.
