The cabinet on Wednesday approved the empanelment of four agencies from Margao and Vasco to carry out a dump profile study on a pilot basis for a few dumps identified by the Mines & Geology department.
The agencies -- Sai Universal Mining Services, Global Environment & Mining Services and Minerals Lab Services Pvt Ltd -- will analyze samples, including sample collection, trenching, pitting and crushing, as well as volume calculation of dumps via drone survey/DGPS survey. Sinha Mining Consultancy will only conduct quality assessments.
The proposal to implement the policy for regulating iron ore dump handling was placed before the cabinet, citing an urgent need for a dump profile study. It stated that willingness was called from seven Goa-based agencies engaged in such work of which five showed interest. Subsequently, quotes were received from four agencies.
The department explained the reason for an expedited move stating, “E-tendering for empaneling agencies will be time-consuming, and considering the immediate need to implement the policy, it is desirable to initially engage agencies to carry out the dump profile study of a few dumps identified by the department on a pilot study basis.
In another decision, the cabinet gave a go-ahead to table the draft bill titled The Goa Industrial Development (Amendment) Bill 2024 in the assembly session. As per the proposal, it will ensure ‘greater transparency, address issues of conflict of interest, improved working of the Corporation and enhance the ease of doing business while ensuring that there is an organized and sustainable industrialization in the State.’
