Calangute Police arrested a 24-year-old resident of Bijapur and his accomplices involved in two chain snatching cases and recovered a gold chain and a mobile from the accused.
The main accused, Sunil Rathod, has been residing at Orda in Candolim.
According to police, a person had filed a complaint on October 4, stating that the accused, Sunil Rathod, came on a scooter and stopped the car of the complainant on a pretext and snatched away his gold chain, weighing 20 grams and worth Rs 75,000, when he lowered his car window.
In the course of investigation, Calangute Police arrested the accused, Rathod, who led the police to other three accused Shirish Irappanawar (31), Rakesh Arolkar (38) both residents of Thivim and Sarvesh Raikar (28) a resident of Panaji.
It was found that all the four accused persons were working as bouncers for private security firm.
Three stolen mobile phones along with gold in melted form were recovered from the accused. All the accused have been remanded to five days police custody.
Later, the main accused Sunil Rathod confessed of being involved in another chain snatching case.
Rathod along with two other accomplices intercepted the complainant, a resident of Pune along with his friend in Baga and snatched two mobile phones, cash Rs 6,500 and gold chain with locket worth Rs 60,000.
His two other associates “ Nishan Mogar (22) native of Karwar and presently residing at Porvorim and Birender Kumar (25), a native of Bihar and presently residing at St Cruz have also been taken in custody. Calangute Police is investigating further.
