With the pandemic still lurking, the Corporation of the City of Panaji has decided to distribute around 10,000 masks free of cost as a preventive measure during the Carnival parade in the city.
Disclosing this, Mayor Uday Madkaikar said, "we know that most people and tourists attending the parade will not carry masks. Around 10,000 masks will be distributed to the public".
The Mayor on Thursday also held a meeting with traffic DYSP, Deputy Collector and health officials to discuss preparations for the float parade.
It was decided that SOPs would be strictly followed during the parade and that only half capacity would be ensured in the pandals which will be fully sanitised.
Separate pandals for tourists have also been set up with fees ranging from Rs 500 to Rs 1000.
In view of the parade, Madkaikar said the Dayanand Bandodkar road would be closed from at 1.30 pm and traffic would be diverted.
He said floats will not be allowed to go on roads immediately after the parade and would have to halt at Campal ground till 11 pm.
