Goans desiring to appear for recruitment to the Central Armed Police Forces as constables will have the option of writing the exams in Konkani from January next year.
Following demands from governments of some southern States, including Tamil Nadu and Telengana, the Union Home Ministry has approved the conduct of the Constable (General Duty) examination in Konkani and a dozen other regional languages. in addition to Hindi and English it formerly used to be held in.
The other regional languages included are Assamese, Bengali, Gujarati, Marathi, Malayalam, Kannada, Tamil, Telugu, Odia, Urdu, Punjabi and Manipuri.
The Ministry of Home Affairs has said that the examination in 13 regional languages will be conducted from January 1, 2024 onwards.
"The decision will result in lakhs of aspirants taking part in the examination in their mother tongue and regional languages," the MHA said.
The Constable (General Duty) recruitment is one of the flagship examinations conducted by the Central Staff Selection Commission and usually attracts aspirants in lakhs from across the country.
