Centre releases Rs 667 cr of tax devolution component

PANAJI
The Centre's Finance Ministry on Friday released a tranche of Goa's tax share of Rs 667.91 crore giving a boost to the Pramod Sawant government which recently introduced stern austerity measures in a bid to cut down government spending and limit the revenue deficit in the last quarter of the current fiscal.

Apart from Goa, the Centre also simultaneously released funds to other State governments as part of the devolution of tax revenues to States to the tune of Rs 1.73 lakh crore.

In December, the Union government had devolved a much smaller tranche of tax revenues to the States -- Rs 89,086 crore.

Meanwhile, Sawant reacted to the inflow of funds from the Centre saying this significant support will enable his government to focus on capital investments in infrastructure projects and also dishing out vital social sector schemes across the State.
