Change of name advt: Govt mulls making Civil Registrar NOC must

PANAJI

Those issuing advertisements for change of name in newspapers will soon have to seek a No Objection Certificate from the Civil Registrar.

Confirming this, Law Minister Nilesh Cabral said once the amendment is passed, the concerned person will have to take an NOC from Civil Registrar before issuing an advertisement for change of name.

He said, the recently started online marriage registration systems will keep a check on cases of frauds in marriage registrations.

Stating that the registration department has taken up the work of digitization of all previous marriage registrations in the State through Info Tech Corporation of Goa, Cabral said this will facilitate cross checking of documents with the click of a button.

He said that per day nearly 30-40 marriages are presently being registered online in bigger talukas while 4-5 are registered in smaller talukas.

Referring to the issue raised by Mahila Congress leader Pratima Coutinho of bigamy by a person who registered two marriages, one at Bardez in 2017 and other at Tiswadi in 2018, Cabral said that allegations of corruption against his department officials in the matter are false.

“Let someone file a complaint in the matter. We will act,” he said.
