The Chimbel gram sabha, on Sunday, boiled over the issue of project near Hindu crematorium with nearly the entire meeting focusing on the issue.
At the end of the meeting, the locals resolved that the provisional NOC issued for the project be revoked as the project proponents have submitted false information pertaining to the existing width of the road and also have not shown the crematorium on the plan.
With the Revolutionary Goans Party creating awareness on the issue, a large number of people turned up for the meeting which was ironically held inside the panchayat premises instead of outside.
As the people could not be accommodated comfortably, many proposals were withdrawn so that majority of the time could be dedicated to the issue of project near Hindu crematorium.
Speaking on the issue, the locals pointed out that since the crematorium is not shown in the plan it would spell danger in the future as those who buy plots will then raise objections.
“The cost of a plot comes to around Rs 1 crore which will be bought only by the rich and this rich people will then see the crematorium as a hindrance,” a local stated.
To the statement of sarpanch Sandesh Shirodkar that the developer has given affidavit that he would not block access to the crematorium, another local Tukaram Kunkolkar informed that the affidavit would have no legal standing.
“We can’t just rely on the affidavit as once the project is granted nod, then that affidavit will not be binding on the buyers of the plots,” Kunkolkar pointed out.
He then demanded that the panchayat revoke the provisional NOC for the project due to false submissions as the existing road has been shown as 10 meters which is not the case and also the crematorium is not shown in the plan.
“The provisional NOC was granted on certain conditions which have been violated and hence it should be revoked,” Kunkolkar informed.
Sarpanch Shirodkar however said that the panchayat will follow the legal procedure on revoking the NOC.
Later, speaking to reporters sarpanch Shirodkar, without naming RGP, alleged that those who conducted awareness on the issue were misguiding the people by stating that he sold the crematorium.
“This is nothing but a political stunt to gain mileage. But I assure the people that nothing will happen to the crematorium and the access will never be blocked,” Shirodkar stated.
