CM dismisses rumours of leadership change

Confirms possibility of cabinet reshuffle

PANAJI

Confirming that there would be a cabinet reshuffle, the Chief Minister Pramod Sawant on Monday dismissed the rumours of possible leadership change, stating that the State has been run successfully under him.

Speaking during Head On, Sawant also admitted internal conflict within the party and the government but maintained that these are “minor” issues and that he is not “much bothered” about it.

Sawant said that any decision, whether on cabinet reshuffle or portfolio reshuffle or change in leadership, every decision is taken by BJP central leadership and the State unit has no say in it.

“BJP is the central party and no decision is taken at state level … for cabinet reshuffle, I will consult the party high command. Cabinet reshuffle will happen someday but it will take time. Not so soon,” he said, adding ‘portfolio reshuffle will also take place’.

“My aim is to ensure that in the coming two and half years, we are in position to continue with our good governance to ensure that we win the next election with full majority,” he added.

Sawant, however, ruled out a change in leadership. “There is no question of leadership change as the State has not witnessed any such major crisis to go for a change. State is running well,” he said.

“There is no reason for leadership change… with God’s grace, all MLAs and people are with me,” the chief minister commented.

When questioned about whether all is not well within the cabinet or party, Sawant said, “When family grows… these things will happen… when family is small the issues are small… but these are minor issues… for me nation and state first and then party… hence these issues don’t bother me much”.

He said that his focus is on Vikasit Goa and India, the plan for which will be ready within a year's time.

Meanwhile, Sawant admitted that there is a malicious campaign launched targeting him through social media. He said that such a campaign involves huge money and only those having it can afford it like the opposition.
