CM: Fuel leakage at Dabolim identified

PANAJI

Chief Minister Pramod Sawant on Friday said the leakage in the pipeline of petroleum company at Matvem-Dabolim has been identified and the situation is being monitored by the South Goa Collector and the Goa State Pollution Control Board (GSPCB).

Sawant who addressed media on the issue said action will be taken against the petroleum company even as he revealed that the preliminary report indicates that the leakage happened naturally (sabotage unlikely).

“As per provisional report, it is natural… the company had not changed the line for a very long time. That could be the reason,” said Sawant.

He also said the company is changing the entire line and that it may take about a month’s time.

Sawant, however, asserted that the State will be not face shortage of fuel due to the leakage issue, as alternate measures are in place to replenish the supply.

Earlier on Thursday, multiple points along the petroleum pipeline in Vasco were identified as 'probable leakage points' by the Belgian Malinois dog 'Urus' engaged by Zuari IAV Private Limited which began excavating these spots.

Contamination of water bodies in Matvem-Dabolim and surrounding localities had left the administration and the petroleum companies clueless as to the cause over the past several days.
