Terming the protest by the farmers as 'show off', the Chief Minister Pramod Sawant on Monday said that the agitation is unwarranted as the government is serious about commencing Sanjivani Sugar factory.
Speaking to the media persons at the sidelines of inauguration of International Purple Fest, Sawant said that the tender for operation of ethanol plant at the factory will be issued in the coming two or three days.
Sawant said that due to lack of response to the tender floated twice before, the government had to wait for sometime before issuing a fresh one.
"What is happening at Azad Maidan is show off. There is no need to agitate. This is unwarranted. Farmers have been getting lot of money for the past three years sitting at home, without growing the sugar cane and they will continue to get it till the plant is put to operation,” he said.
When media informed him that more than money farmers wanted the factory to be started, he reacted by saying, “It is a good thing that they don’t want money.”
He also appealed farmers not to fall for 'those' trying to politicize the issue.
