MARGAO
Where’s the Chief Minister-headed High Powered Coordination Committee (HPCC) on Sonsodo? Has the panel met even once since the High Court disposed of the PIL on Sonsodo in March last to decide the future course of action?
These questions assumes importance and comes against the backdrop of the fact that the High Court, while disposing of the PIL filed by the Citizens for Sonsodo, had expected the Chief Minister-headed High Powered Coordination Committee (HPCC) to put things in place at Sonsodo at the earliest.
In fact, when Advocate General D Pangam referred to setting up of a 15TPD bio-methanation plant at Sonsodo by submitting that the High Powered Coordination Committee (HPCC) would meet and take a decision on these issues, the High Court Bench had observed “We expect the HPCC to address these issues as soon as possible and issue necessary directions to the GWMC and the MMC”.
Sadly, the HPCC is yet to meet till date and the waste generated in the commercial capital is transported to the Cacora plant for waste treatment and disposal for want of a mechanism at Sonsodo.
