A State Steering Committee (SSC) headed by the Secretary for Skill Development and Entrepreneurship has been set up to monitor the World Bank funded programme aimed at raising the bar at ITIs to match skills of trainees to industry requirements.
The panel notified last week also has on it the chiefs or representatives of the three industry bodies -- Goa Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Goa Small Industries Association and the CII Goa Council.
The programme “Skills Strengthening for Industrial Value Enhancement” (STRIVE) is sponsored by the Centre with World Bank funding.
Other official members of the panel include the additional finance secretary, the Principal Chief Engineer (PWD) or his nominee not below the rank of Superintending Engineer) and the directors of education, higher education and technical education.
The Director, Skill Development and Entrepreneurship is the member-secretary.
The panel is expected to meet as often as needed and at least once every quarter and will have a tenure of three years.
It will be the apex body instrumental in reviewing the implementation of STRIVE. It will guide and advise the work of the implementing units at the ITIs.
It will also assess and recommend the Institute Strategic Plan (ISP) of ITIs and proposals for Industry Apprenticeship Initiative (IAI) from Industry Clusters (ICs) for financing under the project.
It is also mandated to oversee operational activities of the ITIs and review/approve training plans including foreign training and study tours of staff.
