Cong slams govt over HC rap on p'yat polls

PANAJI

The Goa Pradesh Congress Committee (GPCC) on Wednesday slammed the State government for the panchayat election fiasco and hailed the decision of the High Court to order the conduct of the poll within 45 days.

GPCC president, Amit Patkar also told a press conference that the Panchayat Minister had vested interests which was the reason for postponing the polls.

“Panchayat Minister has vested interests and that is the reason for the postponement of Panchayat polls. There is complete injustice done to the OBC community,” Patkar said, adding that the party welcomes the High Court order.

“It is a sorry state of affairs that citizens have to knock the doors of Courts to uphold democracy. Holding the elections on time is the duty of the State government and the Goa State Election Commission,” Patkar said.
