State Congress President Girish Chodankar has appealed to take steps to ensure that the legacy of this eminent physician and economist Dr Francisco Luis Gomes is documented and carried forward.
The GPCC chief lamented that it is unfortunate that the Chief Minister Pramod Sawant did not remember Dr Gomes on his 151st death anniversary and even forgot to pay tributes.
“We had submitted a memorandum to the Chief Minister a year back on the occasion of 150th Death Anniversary of the great Goan suggesting various points to government to recognise the work of Dr Gomes, including declaring his house as historic monument and starting a Centre on Political Economics. Unfortunately, even after one year Chief Minister did not find time to act on the letter,” Chodankar said, at a programme held at the South Goa district Congress office.
Leader of Opposition Digambar Kamat, South Goa MP Francisco Sardinha, GPCC General Secretary Subhash Faldessai, SGDC president Joseph Dias, former Minister Aleixo Sequeira, District Vice President Zakaris Goes, Margao Block Congress president Gopal Naik, Congress leaders Royla Fernandes, Deepak Kharangate, Adv Yemen D’Souza and others were present for the event.
Leader of Opposition Digambar Kamat once again made a fervent plea to the government to document all the writing works of Dr Francis Luis Gomes.
South Goa MP Francisco Sardinha said that he was the first visionary nationalist who was proud of Goa and India. "He showed us the path to fight for freedom. He inspired many,” he added.
