Curtorim Cong red flags plans to convert paddy fields

MARGAO

The Curtorim Congress has red flagged  plans to convert around 1.16 lakh square metres of paddy fields and no development slope into settlement in the village.

The Congress further said though Curtorim Independent MLA Reginaldo Lourenco has petitioned to the district Collector, expressing reservations to the plan to convert around 67,000 square meters of no development slope into settlement, it is just the tip of the iceberg.

Congress leader Moreno Rebello had expressed fears that Curtorim will no longer remain the granary of Salcete if the plan to convert paddy fields into settlement is allowed.

‘Instead of helping common Goans to change the zone of their properties admeasuring 300-400 square metres into settlement, plans are afoot to change the zones from paddy fields to settlement admeasuring thousands of square meters”, Moreno said.

Saying that massive conversion of zones from paddy fields to settlement will only benefit the real estate sharks hailing from outside the state, Moreno has warned that Curtokars in particular and Goans in general will become strangers in their own land if changes in zones are effected arbitrarily.
