Cybercriminals have become emboldened to target anyone, even going to the extent of impersonating as law enforcement officials.In one such incident, Belagavi SP Dr Sanjeev Patil himself has been targeted, after a fake Instagram account was created and money was demanded from unsuspecting persons.
Belgavi SP Dr Sanjiv Patil was earlier the DCP of Bengaluru West Zone and there is no Instagram account in his name.
However, using his name and photo, cybercriminals have created a fake account in his name as Dr Sanjeev M Patil, IPS dcpwestbengaluru_ on Instagram and requested the followers to transfer Rs 7,500.
Sending out a caution to people, Belagavi SP Dr Sanjiva Patil tweeted, “It has been found that someone has opened a fake account on Instagram using my name and photo and asking for money from the public and appropriate legal action is being taken.”
“The public must reject such appeals and of such accounts. I request people to be careful about such fraudsters who are trying to con people.”
