It’s now over a fortnight since the South Goa district Collector, Asvin Chandru, IAS had ordered the Margao Municipal Council to demolish the unsafe building on the Isidore Baptista road on November 13.
If sources in the Margao Municipal Council are to be believed, the MMC has not even revoked the license issued to the footwear showroom till date, leave alone initiating steps to raze down the structure.
The Goan, however, understands, that the district Collector’s demolition order has been forwarded to the taxation section only on Wednesday. It’s not clear whether the taxation section will revoke the trade license issued to the footwear showroom, if any, based on the district Collector’s order or allow the showroom to continue operations till the demolition squad, attached to the district Collectorate moves in to pull down the unsafe building.
A MMC official informed that it is in the fitness of things the Margao Chief Officer Gaurish Sankhwalkar moves in and revokes the trade license, if any, disconnect the power supply and seal the unsafe building without any further delay.
