With AI gradually becoming a crucial segment in education, higher education officials have stated that AI is no longer just a specific area of study but has evolved into an essential component across a wide range of fields.

Speaking at the Capacity Building Workshop titled “Leveraging Generative AI for Pedagogical Excellence in Higher Education,” Director of Higher Education Bhushan Savaikar stated that integrating AI into different disciplines improves the quality and effectiveness of teaching and learning.

“AI is a transformative technology and transcends from being a mere subject to becoming an integral part of various disciplines to improve the pedagogical output,” he said, as the workshop -- inaugurated on June 10 -- will continue for different disciplines till Saturday.

With a network of 65 higher education institutions (HEIs) in Goa, the DHE claimed that it is working towards addressing the diverse needs of teachers and students by empowering them with the ethical use of Generative AI for effective learning and research.

“This initiative through the workshop aligns with NEP’s vision of integrating technology to improve the quality of education,” the DHE said.

The inaugural workshop saw over 326 faculty members in attendance. Renowned AI expert and Founder of Espoir Technologies Suresh Namboothiri spoke at length about integrating generative AI in education and research while Associate DHE Professor Kavita Asnani emphasized how AI can serve as an augmentative tool to effectively improve teaching and learning.

The DHE also released discipline-specific handbooks, designed with prompts, to ensure and facilitate the learning and application of Generative AI in academics in respective colleges.

Officials stated that the effectiveness of the training offered at the workshop will subsequently be evaluated by the DHE through reviews at the respective institutions.
