Sidney D’Souza, a differently-abled student who fell off the second floor of a government building after the railing gave way, succumbed to injuries at the GMC hospital in Bambolim.
D’Souza was a student of the vocational course in Sanjay school located on the ground floor of the SCERT building opposite Government High school at Alto-Betim.
On August 31, the mother of the deceased had gone to the Aadhaar Card office located on the second floor of the SCERT building to submit some documents. Sidney was waiting in the corridor near the railings outside the Aadhaar Card office.
All of a sudden, the railing gave way and Sidney fell off the second floor and sustained grievous injuries. He was shifted to GMC hospital by staff of the Sanjay school vocational stream, but succumbed to injuries on Monday evening.
Porvorim police said the body of the deceased would be handed over the family after conducting a post-mortem.
Meanwhile, DRAG President Avelino De Sa has demanded an inquiry by the State government into the tragedy and to pay compensation of Rs 50 lakh to the family of the deceased.
“The inquiry should be conducted by a committee headed by a secretary level officer and the guilty officers should be taken to task,” said De Sa.
Chairman of Sanjay Centre for Special Education Sidharth Kuncalienker had earlier clarified that the incident has nothing to do with Sanjay School.
“The incident had taken place at the Aadhaar Card office, which is a public office. However from a humanitarian point of view and in my individual capacity, I will speak to Chief Minister Pramod Sawant and try to get some monetary assistance for the family of the deceased from the Chief Minister’s Relief fund,” said Kuncalienker.
