MARGAO
Margao MLA Digambar Kamat on Saturday pitched for a marketing avenue for Self Help Groups to showcase and market their products at the government-acquired land for a proposed renewable energy park.

He was speaking at the launching of Goencho Panchayat Bazaar at the Ravindra Bhavan, Margao on Saturday in the presence of former MLA Damu Naik. Kamat said he got the land acquired precisely for the purpose of setting up a renewable energy park and to set up a marketing avenue for the Self Help Groups to showcase their products.

“If the SHGs are ready to go for the marketing avenue, I will support you by taking up the matter with Chief Minister Pramod Sawant so that the vacant land is utilized for the SHGs,” he said.

Saying that he has planned the renewable energy park, besides the SHGs yard on the acquired land, Kamat said, “The concept was based on a similar yard existing in Mumbai so that when visitors, including the tourists, visit the renewable energy park, they will also take a look at the products prepared by the SHGs."

He added: “The government land acquired for the renewable energy park is ideal for the SHGs to showcase their products. Goa had received a grant of Rs one crore to set up the renewable energy park under the Goa Energy Development Agency, but somehow the project could not take off. If the SHGs are interested in taking the project forward, I will speak to the Chief Minister to allot the acquired land for the purpose."

The Goencho Panchayat Bazaar is being organized by Goencho Bazaar and Goa Panchayat Mahila Shakti Abhiyan in collaboration with Goa Sudarop and Ravindra Bhavan, Margao.
