District-level panels set up to monitor safety plans in mining areas

As the incessant rains lash Goa, the State government has constituted district-level committees for monitoring the safety and security measures in the mining areas.

The District Committees- North and South- are headed by Director Mines, with deputy director and Superintendent of Police North and South as its members.

“The district committee is constituted for the purpose of continuous monitoring and conducting inspections for the safety, security and monsoon preparedness of the mining areas for the year 2025-26,” the order stated.

The North district committee includes Mamlatdars of talukas of Bicholim, Sattari and Bardez, apart from the Assistant Engineers WRD and Range Forest Officers from the three talukas and assistant environment engineer from GSPCB.

Similarly, the South district committee includes Mamlatdars of Sanguem, Dharbandora and Quepem along with Assistant Engineers WRD and Range Forest Officers.

The committees has to undertake inspections of the mining areas and ensure that safety measures are in place.
