Aimed at exposing students to vocational education and skill development, the Directorate of Education (DoE) has mandated visits to Industrial Training Institutes (ITIs) for students of Classes IX and X along with the teachers.
In a circular issued to all the heads of the secondary and higher secondary schools, Director Education Shailesh Zingade has also asked educational institutions to maintain the track record of what students are indulging into academically after completion of Class X and XII.
The initiative aligns with National Education Policy (NEP) vision to equip students with essential skills from an early stage, enhancing their readiness for future professional and personal growth.
Zingade said that NEP emphasises the gradual integration of Vocational education/ Skill education into mainstream education, starting with vocational exposure at the middle and secondary school levels. The policy further states that each student should learn at least one Vocational/Technical skill and be introduced to various others.
In order to achieve the same, the schools are directed to collaborate with Industrial Training Institutes (ITIs), Polytechnics, Local Industry, etc.
“Heads of all Govt./Govt. Aided / Secondary/ Higher Secondary Schools in the State of Goa are directed to instruct all teachers and students of Std. IX and Std. X to visit their nearest Industrial Training Institutes (ITIs) in order to give exposure to Skill Education,” Zingade said.
Further, he said that the schools are directed to maintain a track record of what students are indulging into academically after completion of Std. X and Std, XII and to submit the same to the inspection team whenever inspection takes place.
