Alert Drishti lifesavers averted a suicide bid by a 25-year-old man at Sinquerim on Tuesday evening.
According to reports, a Drishti lifesaver noticed the youth entering into the waters and heading straight into the sea at Sinquerim beach at about 6 pm.
The lifesaver called for backup and rushed into the waters. Two lifesavers jumped onto a jet ski and followed to assist with the rescue.
One lifesaver on reaching the victim held onto him to keep him afloat. However, the youth got aggressive. When the two lifesavers arrived on the jet ski, the trio attempted to get the victim onto the rescue board.
The victim refused to cooperate and told the lifesavers he wanted to end his life. He seemed mentally disturbed as he was disoriented and incoherent in his speech.
The lifesavers spoke to the victim calmly and managed to put a life jacket onto him to keep him afloat. They calmed him down and eventually managed to bring him ashore by placing him onto the jet ski mat.
Meanwhile, a call was placed to the police. On arrival of a police team, the disturbed youth got aggressive and agitated with the police too.
While in the waters, he was stung by a jellyfish and he was later shifted to the Candolim PHC for first aid.
