Mormugao Municipal Council (MMC) on Monday began a drive to collect details for vendor cards as part of an effort to identify bona fide vendors of the Vasco fish market.
MMC inspectors along with municipal community organiser began collecting photos and Aadhaar card details from all vendors, including fish vendors, traditional fruit and vegetable vendors attached to the Vasco fish market.
Sources said this was done to carry out a survey to identify valid vendors of the market.
Vasco Fish Market President Caridade Pereira told reporters that MMC staff had inspected the market and collected Aadhaar card copies and two photos from fish vendors.
"We have been told that these details will be used to provide vendor cards. Further, details of vendors have also been identified and re-submitted to MMC,” said Pereira.
MMC Community Organiser Nandita Haldankar said she along with the municipal inspector collected photos and documents of the vendors on the directions of the MMC chief officer.
When contacted, MMC Chairperson Damodar Kaskar confirmed that the drive was taken as a part of efforts to identify valid vendors of the fish market.
“This is the first step we have taken toward the construction of the new Vasco fish market," said Kaskar.
