OLD GOA
Former Director of Municipal Administration Elvis Gomes informed that the panchayats are empowered to enter the property to hold inspection if the party remains absent.
“Under Section 82 of the Goa Panchayat Raj Act, the panchayat is empowered to enter the property in order to make any inspection,” Gomes stated.
“Just because the gate was locked, calling off the inspection cannot be justified. I urge the Old Goa panchayat to go through Section 82 of the GPR Act and if they are really serious in taking action in the matter, at the next inspection they should be prepared to make entry into the property by exercising the powers,” Gomes stated.
“If one goes by the decision taken by the panchayat, it appears that the inspection will never happen if the opponent party does not turn up and they will get ample time to build the structures, which at the moment are not existing,” Gomes informed.
