Extortion case against group for demanding protection money

The Crime Branch (CB) has registered a case of extortion against a group of men based on a complaint alleging the accused demanded monthly protection money of Rs 50,000 to continue in the fishing business.

Complainant Satheeb Ramchandran, of Ratnagiri, Maharashtra, having a office at Malim jetty, Betim, alleged that Dominique Nazareth, Buddu and Kumar (full names not known) and their associates demanded the protection money, and also threatened with dire consequences if he failed to fulfil their demands.

The other fishing agents operating at Malim jetty, Betim, also allegedly are being harassed by the same accused. As per the FIR registered under various sections of the IPC, the accused also threatened the complainant of damaging/burning the fish truck, if the amount was not paid to them.
