OLD GOA
Santa Cruz deputy sarpanch Inacio Domnic Pereira has resigned from the post apparently to honour the agreement reached among the ruling panel members of sharing the post.
Pereira submitted his resignation to the sarpanch on Saturday as he has completed the agreed one-year tenure. However, the resignation of Pereira has raised eyebrows in some quarters as it has come at a time when the panchayat is battling issues on various fronts, including the one on gambling.
Sources informed that Pereira stepped down over an altercation with the ruling members over some issue. It remains to be seen whether Pereira's resignation is accepted by the sarpanch and forwarded to the higher authorities.
Speaking to 'The Goan', Pereira said that since he has completed one year, he has stepped down to pave the way for another ruling panch to take over. He, however, refused to comment on whether he stepped down over disagreement on some issue. Further, Pereira said that he will continue to work for the welfare of the village with the same vigour that he worked during his tenure as deputy sarpanch.
Sources informed that Manguesh Gawas is likely to take over as the deputy sarpanch as and when the elections are held.
