Five inmates booked for assaulting undertrial inside Colvale Jail

Five inmates of the Central Jail, Colvale, have been booked for allegedly assaulting an undertrial prisoner inside the jail premises on October 24.
According to police, the incident occurred around 8.40 am in the convict block of the jail when the accused inmates “ Vally D’Costa, Amar Kalal, Salik Bepari, Mandrar Prabhu and Vinod Sharma “ all lodged in the NDPS block, allegedly formed an unlawful assembly and attacked the undertrial, Mohammed Rehan Sharif, who is lodged in Block No III.
Police said the accused assaulted the complainant with slaps, fist blows and a mop stick, causing injuries to his face, head and other parts of the body.
Following the complaint filed by Sharif on October 30, Anjuna Police registered an offence under Sections 115(2), 189(1) and 191(2) read with 190 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
It may be recalled that, as reported earlier, an undertrial prisoner was brutally assaulted by a group of fellow inmates inside the Colvale Central Jail last week. He sustained serious injuries to his face and other parts of his body in the attack and was immediately shifted to a hospital for treatment.
Further investigation is being carried out by PSI Swanand Prabhu of Anjuna Police Station.
