The State forest department is all set to sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Goa Forest Development Corporation (GFDC) to oversee and manage all the activities within the forest regions.

Forest Minister Vishwajit Rane on Sunday announced that the Central government has designated GFDC as the nodal agency responsible for all tourism-related activities within the demarcated forest areas.

He said that henceforth, GFDC will manage activities including waterfall circuits, trails and treks.

“In the recent meeting, it was decided that GFDC will be the sole authorized agency for operating in the forest areas,” Rane said.

The Minister informed that to facilitate the powers, a MoU between the State forest department and GFDC would be signed shortly. He said that according to the MoU, the GFDC will have to oversee all the tourism related activities within the forest region.

He further said that the GFDC chairman Deviya Rane will chair a high-level meeting with the forest department officials and a detailed presentation will be given to the Director General of Forest and the Union Minister for Forest Bhupendra Yadav outlining our plans for future.
