Grace de Souza, the wife of former chief minister late Dr Wilfred de Souza and mother-in-law of Congress spokesperson, Tulio de Souza, passed away early Friday morning and was interred on the same day. She was 81. She is survived by two daughters, one of whom is in the UK.
Grace de Souza, who was ailing for more than a month, was admitted at the Remanso Hospital in Mapusa four days ago, where she breathed her last.
The funeral took place in the Mae de Deus Church, Saligao in presence of close family members and friends.
She devoted a lot of time to social work and was elected as the President of National Association of Blind (NAB).
She was also awarded the ‘Order of the British Empire’ for rendering honorary services to the British High Commission in India.
Mapusa MLA Joshua D’Souza, Benaulim MLA Churchill Alemao and former union minister for law Ramakant Khalap paid condolence visits at the residence in Saligao.
