Mapusa Police on Thursday arrested four youth in connection with a violent attack on two pay-parking attendants at Rizim Plaza complex, Morod in Mapusa, in which one staffer sustained stab injuries.
The arrested accused have been identified as Buvan Govekar (18), Dasrath Govekar (25), Rupsai Arondekar (18) and Aniket Shirodkar (18).
Police said a fifth accused is yet to be traced.
According to police, the incident occurred around noon on Wednesday when parking attendant Sandeep Kumar asked a motorist to park his vehicle properly inside the private complex, which had engaged staff to regulate and collect parking fees.
The seemingly trivial request enraged the youth, who allegedly attacked Kumar with bike keys, causing minor injuries.
The youth then reportedly called his friends, who soon arrived at the spot and joined him in confronting the staff.
The group allegedly assaulted both Kumar and his colleague, Prakash Talwar, before one of them pulled out a knife and stabbed Talwar.
Both injured attendants were rushed to the district hospital at Mapusa. While Kumar was treated for his injuries, Talwar, who suffered stab wounds, was later shifted to Goa Medical College and Hospital, Bambolim, where he is currently undergoing treatment.
Mapusa Police registered a case under Section 307 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (attempt to murder) against the five accused.
Police managed to secure CCTV footage of the assault, which helped in establishing the identity of the suspects.
After the attack, the accused went into hiding for the entire day on Wednesday.
Police later summoned their parents to the station and asked them to ensure that the youth surrendered.
Following sustained efforts, four of the accused were apprehended on Thursday.
“CCTV footage was crucial in tracking down the culprits. We are interrogating the arrested accused and a manhunt has been launched to nab the fifth person,” a senior police officer said.
Further investigation into the case is underway.
