Goa has seen dengue cases in the seven months from January to July this year plummet four-fold as compared to the same seven-month period last year. While 232 cases were reported last year, the tally this year is just 56 for seven months.
This year, seven cases were reported in January, nine in February, seven in March, six in April, four in May, ten in June, and 13 in July. Of these thirteen cases in July, five are from Navelim, two each in Pernem, Shiroda, and Balli, and one each in Mapusa and Siolim.
According to Deputy Director, Dr Kalpana Mahatme, the department has upped its anti-dengue efforts and trebled the mosquito breeding sites tackled by it to nearly 2,023 until June.
Additionally, 4,617 awareness campaigns were conducted the whole of last year while this year until June the number of campaigns held has crossed the 4,000 mark in June itself, Dr Mahatment who heads the National Vector Borne Disease Control Programme at the DHS, said.
