Goa Forward Party Chief Vijai Sardesai on Thursday launched the Fatorda Chaka Chak drive to ensure cleanliness in the constituency ahead of the upcoming St Joaquim Chapel feast, Borda, and Ganesh Chaturthi.
Launching the exercise on Thursday in the presence of party Margao Municipal Councillors, Sardesai said the exercise will be restricted to only the 11 municipal wards of the Margao Municipal Council. “We will take up a similar exercise in Margao next year. There’s no time left to carry out the exercise in the entire Margao Municipal area,” he said.
Saying that the feast of St Joaquim Chapel, Borda, will be celebrated on Sunday, the Fatorda MLA said the workers drafted for the cleanliness work will concentrate in and around the area in the next two days before starting the drive in all the remaining municipal wards falling in the Fatorda constituency.
“I had started this exercise a couple of years ago, since the Margao Municipal workforce fell short of the requirements. This year, the cleanliness drive will be taken up in all 11 municipal wards in Fatorda. Ganesh Chaturthi is the biggest festival of Goan Hindus. Against this backdrop, we have decided to keep the wards clean in the constituency,” he added.
