A scheme to aid re-use of land holdings in industrial estates of entrepreneurs whose projects have either gone sick or shut down for other reasons, was unveiled by Chief Minister Pramod Sawant on Tuesday.
Styled the 'Exit Support Scheme' it is targeted at the over 423 units in Goa Industrial Development Corporation (GIDC) operated industrial estates across the State.
Under the scheme, owners of sick units will be given the opportunity to execute transfer of their long lease to third parties with a full waiver of transfer fees and other incentives.
Sawant who addressed the media alongwith GIDC chairman Aleixo Reginald Lourenco, said that over 12.75 lakh square metres of land is locked in industrial estates with such non-functional industrial units.
For the purpose of this scheme, such idle plots at industrial estates have been categorised into four different types -- those with no construction, partial construction, plots with construction completed but no production and those where units were functional but have shut down.
Plots of lessees who opt for the scheme by submitting a 'letter of intent' will be alloted to other entrepreneurs who come forward to set up their production facility in the industrial estates.
According to Sawant, details of plots available thus including their full description will be made available on the GIDC portal and a transparent process will be put in place to allocate them to new entrepreneurs.
