MARGAO
After The Goan highlighted earlier this year how the Geographic Information System (GIS) survey report compiled by an agency has been gathering dust in the Margao Municipal Council since 2017, Margao Municipal Chief Officer Gaurish Sankhwalkar was quick to reply saying the GIS report has been traced in the MMC buildings. But, the moot question remains unanswered “ when will the civic body implement the GIS report when the report had projected revenue generation to the tune of crores of rupees by way of taxes from commercial establishments and households?
The GIS survey carried out in ward No 14 of the Margao Municipal Council comprising the heart of the commercial town, comprising of the markets, had exposed the huge revenue leakage and suggested ways and means to plug the leakage.
While the GIS survey had projected huge revenue for the civic body, amounting to crores of rupees, the report is still awaiting implementation by the civic body. Incidentally, the GIS survey report is no more the talking point in the corridors of the civic body, as the City Fathers and the Municipal babus are batting for a GIS survey announced by the Goa State Urban Development Agency (GSUDA), which is yet to see light of the day.
