According to data from the Vahan dashboard, Goa recorded an overall EV penetration of 13.11 per cent in the personal vehicle category, just behind Kerala, which topped the list with 13.35 per cent. The figures highlight State’s steady transition towards cleaner mobility and growing consumer preference for electric vehicles.
A closer look at the data shows that EV penetration among two-wheelers in Goa stood at a robust 15.14 per cent, indicating strong uptake in this segment, while four-wheeler EV penetration was comparatively lower at 7.38 per cent. Industry observers note that the higher adoption of electric two-wheelers is largely driven by affordability, ease of use, and lower running costs.
Between January and April this year, a total of 2,926 electric two-wheelers and four-wheelers were sold in the state. Of these, nearly 2,000 units were two-wheelers, further underlining their dominance in the EV market. During the same period, total vehicle registrations, across both electric and internal combustion engine (ICE) vehicles, stood at 32,426.
EV penetration is a key metric used to assess the pace of adoption of electric mobility. It refers to the percentage of electric vehicles registered out of the total number of vehicles (including both EVs and ICE vehicles) within a specific region. A higher penetration rate indicates faster adoption and a stronger shift towards sustainable transport options.
Goa’s performance this year builds on its strong showing in 2025, when it also secured the second position nationally with an EV penetration of 11.86 per cent in the personal vehicle segment. Last year, the state recorded sales of 9,167 electric two-wheelers and four-wheelers out of a total of 86,363 vehicles sold.
Experts point out that further growth in the four-wheeler segment will depend on factors such as expanded charging networks, reduced upfront costs, and enhanced consumer confidence.
