Director General of Police (DGP) Jaspal Singh has conveyed the preparedness of his force to implement the three new criminal laws from July 1 at a review meeting chaired by Director, National Crime Records Bureau, Vivek Gogia.
Pertinently, the three old criminal laws -- Indian Penal Code 1861, Criminal Procedure Code 1973 and Indian Evidence Act 1872 shall cease to have any effect after the Bhartiya Nagrik Suraksha Samhita, Bhartiya Sakshya Samhita and Bhartiya Nyaya Samhita are implemented.
A detailed presentation was made before Gogia by SP North Akshat Kaushal detailing training programs organized for all ranks. IGP Omvir Singh Bisnoi and other SPs also participated in the review meeting.
Goa's police personnel have been trained by Rashtriya Raksha University, National Forensic Science University, Goa, Bureau of Police Research and Development besides some have attended 'Training of Trainers’ courses, Gogia was told.
Several technological upgradation measures, crucial to implement the mandatory provisions of videography of various police processes and mandatory forensic examination of scene of crime by forensic teams were also highlighted in the report.
DGP Singh said the State Government has already been asked for sanction of a budget for procurement of new equipment and also to approve recruitment of forensic examination experts.
Most provisions of the new laws come into effect from July 1 but other provisions related to videography and forensic examination would come into operation in due course.
