The striking contract teachers of Goa Samagra Shiksha Abhiyan (SSA) on Tuesday withdrew their three-week long protest and decided to join duties with schools reopening for physical classes.
"We are not happy with the government’s decision, however schools are reopening now and as our responsibility towards students, we have decided to resume duties. However, we will continue to put our demands before the next government,” said Gangaram Lambor, leader of All Goa Contract Teachers Goa Samagra Shiksha.
Chief Minister Pramod Sawant had personally met them with the official order hiking their monthly remuneration from Rs 16,000 to Rs 25,000.
"We have given them a 60 percent hike in salaries which no government gave and now they will get 12 months salary instead of 10 months salaries. What else they want,” asked Sawant.
The contract teachers have been on indefinite strike at Azad Maidan since the last three weeks with a small break in between, demanding a hike in monthly salary as well as regularisation of services.
Sawant had called on the striking teachers at Azad Maidan with a copy of the order issued by the State Project Director SSA on October 29, with regards to an increase in salary.
