The State government has made 12-digit Automated Permanent Academic Account Registry (APAAR ID)-as mandatory identifier for students opting for inter-school transfer or to avail benefits like free textbooks and mid-day meal.

As on January 28, the State’s APAAR enrolment is around 63 per cent that is of the total 2,91,112 targeted enrolment, 1,85,617 students have generated their APAAR ID. All 1,472 schools have initiated the process.

Of the total 81,589 secondary and higher secondary students, 50,572 have enrolled for lifelong APAAR ID- under ‘One Nation, One Student ID’ initiative.

The new initiative aims to streamline academic records, track student progress and support students’ educational journeys. The APAAR ID system will enable the Education Department to track student progress and identify those who need additional support.

In a circular issued on Thursday, Director Education Shailesh Zingade has directed the heads of the institutions to expedite the process of APAAR ID generation of its students.

“With the aim of utilising APAAR ID as the primary identifier of the student, it is mandatory to quote APAAR ID in inter-school transfers and migration here onwards,” Zingade said in a communication to all the heads of government, government aided, unaided primary, secondary, higher secondary and special schools.

“Further, APAAR ID is also mandatory to obtain the benefits of free text books, mid-day meals and other government benefit schemes,” the Director added.

According to the data, of the total 44,530 secondary school students, 29,141 have generated APAAR ID while at the higher secondary level, 21,431 students have enrolled. The total target is 37,057.

Earlier this week, the Goa Board of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education (GBSHSE) had asked schools to complete the process of enrolling the students of Class IX and Class XI for APAAR ID as primary students’ identification for school and higher education examination” by February 20.

APAAR ID is a unique, lifelong 12-digit identifier designed to facilitate targeted interventions, improve school enrolments, and seamlessly manage academic records.

APAAR ID allows students to digitally store, manage, and access their academic credits, including degrees, diplomas, certificates, training details, and co-curricular accomplishments. This system will also allow students to access the DigiLocker ecosystem, where they can digitally store all their achievements, including exam results and holistic report cards. Students can use the credit score for higher education or employment purposes in the future.
