The State government has invited suggestions and objections on a draft amendment to the Goa Motor Vehicles Rules, proposing that for app-based taxi aggregators, the app itself may serve as a fare meter if it provides SMS/email-based invoices.
The Transport Department issued a notice seeking objections or suggestions on the draft rules within 15 days.
“…If the Motorcab is operating under an App-based Aggregator, the App may be considered as Fare Meter for the purpose of this rule, and the need for the printer shall not be mandatory in case the App has functionality to provide SMS/Email-based invoices,” reads the draft amendment to Rule 140 of the Rules.
It also stated that the further amendment to the Goa Motor Vehicles Rules, 1991 would be titled the Goa Motor Vehicles (Amendment) Rules, 2025, and will come into force on the date of their final publication in the Official Gazette.
“All objections and/or suggestions to the said draft Rules may be forwarded to the Director of Transport to the Government of Goa, Junta House, Panaji, before the expiry of the said period of fifteen days so that they may be taken into consideration at the time of finalization of the said draft Rules,” the notice states.
