Govt vows crackdown on illegal casino ads

MAPUSA
Chief Minister Pramod Sawant assured the Goa Legislative Assembly of strict action against illegal advertisements promoting casinos, vowing that all unauthorised hoardings would be dismantled.

Sawant emphasised the government’s commitment to addressing this issue, citing recent actions taken against unlawful advertisements in Porvorim.

Sawant informed the House that the Porvorim Police had already filed a case against unauthorised advertisements by Lankan casinos, the management of Balleys Casino and the advertising agency responsible for the hoardings.

The Chief Minister acknowledged that the State has yet to finalise an advertising policy, which he believes will enable more decisive actions against illegal gambling advertisements.

This response came after Fatorda MLA Vijai Sardesai accused Sri Lankan casinos of violating the Goa, Daman and Diu Gambling Act by advertising within the State.

Sardesai highlighted that despite existing laws, illegal casino advertisements had proliferated, particularly near the new Mopa airport.
